SUMMARY (5) Stomatal conductance of 2 and 3-year-old foliage was 0.48 and 0.31 times gs of 1-year-old foliage, respectively. This rapid drop in gs with leaf age had a substantial effect on average gs of the canopy. Because of the lack of information we did not calculate sample size requirements for stratifying with respect to age.
