Abstract

Background: Of the 54,000 UK cases of breast cancer annually, almost 60% are aged over 60 years at diagnosis. Women over 60 have the lowest uptake of postmastectomy breast reconstruction (PMBR) and are the least likely to be offered it. We report on a systematic review regarding age as an underlying factor in the selection of patients for PMBR and the outcomes from such surgery in terms of rates of adverse events and quality of life (QoL) in older patients.
