Abstract

We conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of psychological treatments for persistent non-cancer pain (excluding headache) in adults, using the Cochrane format. We searched Medline, Psychlit, Embase up to September 2008 for RCTs of credible psychological treatments for pain and pain-related problems compared to another active treatment or no treatment. We included any follow-up of 6 months or longer. 62 trials met these criteria, and we extracted data on outcomes for pain, disability, and/or mood for nearly 50.
