Abstract
In this work, we introduce and verify general structures to obtain two-output tunable-phase oscillators using cascaded standard filter sections. In particular, a standard second-order high-pass, band-pass or all-pass filter followed by a first-order bi-linear filter section in a unity-gain closed loop configuration is shown to result in a third-order oscillator under certain conditions. The phase difference between the outputs of the two filter sections is a design parameter and can be tunable independent of the oscillation frequency or the start-up gain condition. Quadrature phase outputs can be obtained as special cases. Spice circuit simulations and experimental results are provided to verify the theory.
