Abstract

Big data centers play an important role in the current IT infrastructure, but they are also the main contributors of the carbon dioxide emissions, and their impact on resource consumption and environmental pollution will continue to increase in the coming years. At present, many scholars have been discussing how technology can reduce pollution, increase resource utilization, and predict data center energy consumption. Based on these studies, this paper analyzes the major components of energy consumption in a big data center, and proposes a system-wide energy consumption strategy to reduce its carbon emissions. The discussion of this paper can help a firm manager to effectively build and manage a sustainable big data center.
