Abstract

Signal distortions caused by fiber nonlinearities in spectral inverter using dispersion shifted fiber are studied in this paper. Performance degradation of systems employing midspan spectral inversion for the purpose of dispersion compensation is also discussed under different input signal powers and fiber lengths of the inverter. According to our simulation results, it is shown that with Erbium doped fiber amplifier noise taken into account, there exist optimal values for the two parameters where system transmission penalty can be minimized.
