Abstract

The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport has installed the World’s largest Automated People Mover (APM) system operating in an airport environment. The Skylink APM system presents an excellent opportunity to test the simulation and modeling capabilities of Lea+Elliott’s Train Performance Simulations (TPSim©). This paper will discuss in detail the simulation and modeling phase and will compare the simulation and modeling results to the actual performance of the installed DFW International Airport Skylink APM System. The Power Distribution System (PDS) and System Performance of the DFW International Airport Skylink APM System will be the focus of this comparison for this paper. The information contained herein relating to the existing Skylink APM System is a result of real-time performance measurements of the installed PDS system and System Performance testing under normal system operation. The PDS measurements taken facilitate the comparison of power demand for APM systems. Information obtained from System Performance testing allows the comparison of APM trip times, system capacity and fleet requirements.
