Abstract

The system presented in this paper uses LIDAR (light detection and ranging) technology for the creation of three-dimensional representation of our surroundings as point cloud data. Thanks to advances in LIDAR technology in recent years this technology has found its applications across various industries and fields. The proposed cost-effective Arduino based system gives 3D point cloud representations of our environment as results. The promising results are obtained and could provide a basis for further improvements in different applications, like image matching, autonomous driving, obstacle detection and collision avoidance.
