Abstract

Describes a system that has been used successfully for the measurement of relaxation times of superconducting tunnel junctions under light irradiation. The system allows the measurement of 2 mu V signals of less than 10 ns rise time, with a signal-to-noise ratio of better than 4. The behaviour of a commercial GaAs solid state laser at cryogenic temperatures is also described.
