Abstract

The paper reports a system design approach to the microelectronic implementation of a knowledge based analytical control (KBAC) algorithm. The main objective was to develop a KBAC hardware module with short latency which is able to meet the real time requirements for plants with fast dynamics and can also serve as a basic control device for decentralised applications and for automation engineering in various hardware environments. After some remarks on the system design approach for application specific embedded systems and the introduction of the KBAC algorithm system and control driven design requirements and their repurcussions on the final KBAC module are discussed. The paper concludes with some remarks concerning two prototype implementations.
