Abstract

A year ago last January, Mr. Rapp collected a sterile moss at Oviedo, Florida, that proved to be the above species, and more specimens were sent in this year by the same collector from near Sanford, so there is at least a possibility some day of obtaining fruiting specimens of this rare moss in our own country. It has previously been found in the Indies, Trinidad, and Yucatan, but no mature fruit seems to be known at the present time. A rather complete description has been published in the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club,' see also under West Indian Mosses, by Mrs. Britton, in the same journal.2 The figures accompanying this note were drawn from specimens collected by Gaumer in Yucatan, but apply equally well to the Florida specimens.
