Abstract

ABSTRACTA new species of parasitic quill mite, Syringophiloidus bucerotidus Skoracki et Sikora sp. nov. is described based on the mite material collected from contour feather quills of six hornbill species (Bucerotiformes: Bucerotidae): Horizocerus hartlaubi (Gould) [type host] and H. albocristatus (Cassin) from D.R. Congo, Tockus flavirostris (Rüppell) and T. fasciatus (Shaw) from Cameroon, T. deckeni (Cabanis) and Lophoceros pallidirostris (Hartlaub et Finsch) from Tanzania.
