Abstract

The ninth and tenth centuries were a period of transition for Syriac, as well as for other scribes, with changes in both material and script. On the basis of the 70 dated Syriac manuscripts that survive from this period, the following topics are covered: provenance, layout, quires, colophons and modes of dating, palimpsests, and costs. An appendix offers a list of dated manuscripts in Syriac, Arabic, Greek, and Georgian, which link Sinai with Syria and Palestine.
