Abstract

Syria and Lebanon were recognized as independent states to be placed under a Mandatory Power. By decision of the Supreme Council of the Allied Powers at San Remo (25 April, 1920), France was assigned the Mandate for Syria, which was confirmed by the League of Nations on 24 July, 1922 (Declaration of London).
