Abstract

REPORT OF CASES I shall report a case of syphilis reaching the third generation and discuss some of the problems of congenital syphilis. Family 1.— A boy, aged 7, was referred to the New York Skin and Cancer Hospital following a diagnosis of interstitial keratitis. The boy presented other unmistakable evidence of congenital syphilis. The Wassermann (blood) reaction was positive. He was treated in the service of Dr. Dudley D. Stetson. The family history revealed that there were three other children with positive blood Wassermann reactions and other signs of congenital syphilis. The mother presented signs of congenital syphilis with a positive Wassermann reaction. The father was clinically free from any manifestations of the disease and had had repeated negative blood Wassermann reactions. The maternal grandmother gave a history of having been infected by her husband after the birth of her first child. Following this she had eleven pregnancies resulting
