Abstract

Cellulose and its derivatives are important materials with a unique chemical makeup that can be used to make customized hydrogel networks. This study includes an overview of the basic synthetic processes, as well as an overview of the many types of hydrogels produced, different starting materials used, and the reaction conditions for the synthesis. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the vast applications of cellulose-based hydrogels as well as their distinct characteristics. This review discusses the various forms of cellulose hydrogels that are synthesized using simple cellulose and different cellulose derivatives.
