Using replicating portfolios and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) institutions can reconstruct all the instruments that they would like to buy or sell, in principle. Hence, policies such as capital controls and stamp duties, with holding taxes, etc., may end up having unexpected results if the financial engineering dimension is ignored.
