Abstract

Eu2+ doped M-phase BaAl2Si2O8 phosphors have been synthesized by the solid state reaction. The structure, photoluminescence and relations between the structure and luminescence have been investigated and discussed. These phosphors showed the Eu2+ broad band excitation and emission spectra. The excitation band covered the wavelength band of 250 to 400 nm. The emission band covered the wavelength band of 400–600 nm. These phosphors were series of blue-emitting phosphors. From Eu2+ concentration 0.5 mol% to 20 mol%, no obvious concentration quenching has been found. The luminescence study at room and high temperature showed these phosphors have high thermal stabilities. Their photoluminescence intensity remained 94% at 150°C compared with that measured at room temperature. The physical mechanisms for the weak concentration quenching and high thermal stabilities have been investigated and discussed.
