Abstract

A new one-dimensional chain complex {[Cu(dmbpy)(N3)]2(ta)}2CH3OH·2H2O (dmbpy=4,4′-dimethylbipyridine, ta=terephthalato dianion) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and magnetic measurement. The crystal structure is made up of chains of copper(II) ions, two methanol and two water molecules. The copper(II) ions are alternatively linked by terephthalato and asymmetric double end on azido bridges. Magnetic susceptibility data, measured from 5 to 300K, show weak ferromagnetic interactions with J=22.75cm−1 between copper(II) ions through asymmetric double end-on azido bridges.
