Abstract

Solvothermal reaction of 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid and 3,5-bis(imidazol-1′-yl)pyridine with cadmium nitrate provided a new coordination polymer, namely {[Cd2(tdc)2(bimpy)](2H2O)(2DMF)}n (1) where H2tdc = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, and bimpy = 3,5-bis(imidazol-1′-yl)pyridine. The compound has been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analyses. Crystallographic data show that the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic P21/n space group and exhibits an interesting three-dimensional network comprising binuclear Cd(II) structural unit, which could be described as a (3,7)-connected topology. At room temperature, compound 1 exhibits strong fluorescence emission in the solid state.
