Abstract

A new Cd(II) complex, [Cd(DADMBTZ) 2(NO 2) 2], DADMBTZ = 2,2′-diamino-5,5′-dimethyl-4,4′-bithiazole, has been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray determination. The thermal behavior, UV–Vis and fluorescence spectra of compound were studied. The coordination number of cadmium atom in complex is six with coordinated environments of distorted octahedral, CdN4O2. In reaction with DADMBTZ, the ligand DADMBTZ acts as bidentate in complex to form five-membered chelate rings with different internal angles in coordination polyhedron. Two monodentate nitroto ions occupy the equatorial position. The crystal packing is mainly stabilized by N H⋯O and N H⋯N hydrogen bonding interactions. The CdS nanoparticles has been prepared using [Cd(DADMBTZ) 2(NO 2) 2] as precursor via thermal decomposition. As-prepared CdS nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This study demonstrates that bithiazole complexes may be suitable precursors for preparation of nanoscale materials.
