Abstract

Epoxy resins based on cardo symmetric double Schiff bases have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, GPC, DSC and TGA at 10°C/min in nitrogen atmosphere. Resins are soluble in common solvents and thermally stable up to about 238–266°C and followed apparently two step degradation. Associated kinetic parameters such as Ea, A, n and ΔS* have been determined according to Freeman-Anderson method and discussed in light of structure of the resins. A considerably large amount of residue (22–30%) above 500°C confirmed the formation of cross-linked polymers.
