Abstract

[Bu 4N]PhTt Ph(PhTt Ph−=phenyltris((phenylthio)methyl)borate) reacts with [Cu(CH 3CN) 4]BF 4, to yield [(PhTt Ph)Cu·CH 3CN], 1. In acetonitrile solution, 1 is monomeric. X-ray analysis shows that 1 forms an infinite, one-dimensional solid-state extended structure. Each copper ion is coordinated by three sulfur donors, two from one ligand and the third from a second ligand. The approximate tetrahedral coordination sphere is completed by an η 2-phenyl from the phenyl ring attached to boron on the ligand providing a single thioether donor. Although 1 is stable to O 2, and H 2O, it reacts with PPh 3, pyridine, or benzonitrile to yield the corresponding monomer, (PhTt Ph)Cu(L) (L=PPh 3, 2; py, 3; PhCN, 4).
