Abstract

Abstract Gd3+ activated CaMgP2O7 were successfully synthesized by different synthesis route namely; the solid-state reaction method, the sol-gel method, wet chemical, and solution combustion method. The prepared samples were characterized by several characterization techniques like XRD, SEM, FT-IR, EPR, and PL. CaMgP2O7 has a monoclinic crystal structure. The effective g value geff ≈ 5.88, 2.88, and 1.91 were observed in CaMgP2O7: Gd3+. PL excitation at 274 nm and emission at 314 nm indicates good incorporation of dopant Gd3+ ion in calcium magnesium pyrophosphate host. All characterization techniques show that the solid state and sol-gel techniques are more suitable for the synthesis of phosphate group as compared to wet chemical and solution combustion method.
