Abstract

There has been considerable progress in many areas of study on tree root systems and their mycorrhizas but some important subjects and approaches, with respect to both orchard and forest tree roots are very inadequately researched. These include anchorage, root growth and emergence of new roots after transplanting, factors controlling nutrient uptake by different parts of mature tree root systems and seasonal variations in nutrient uptake and the use of mathematical models in relation to mycorrhizal infection and its effects on plant growth.
