Abstract
Synthesis of biscoumarin derivatives using an environment friendly, recyclable polymeric resin as catalyst via one-pot pseudo-three component reaction was simply achieved by using numerous substituted aromatic aldehydes (1 mM) and 4-hydroxycoumarin (2 mM) in EtOH: H2O at 80 °C in excellent yields and high purity. The compounds thus obtained were characterized by spectroscopic methods like IR, NMR, HRMS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The selected compounds were subjected to photophysical studies such as absorption, emission, solvent effect, metal ion sensing ability, Stocks shift and quantum yield. Biscoumarins were found to be bluish-green emissive material and could recognize Cu2+and Fe3+and were found to be good metal ion sensors. Computational studies of the selected compound 3c are good agreement with the experimental results.
