Abstract
1. It was found that compounds of the type CC12 = CX(CH2)nY(X = H or Hal; Y = various groups) react with halogen in acetic acid in presence of mercuric acetate with formation (after treatment with water) of α-halo or α,α-dihalo carboxylic acids. 2. In this way the following acids were prepared: Cl(CH2)3CHCIOOH; C1(CH2)3CHBrCOOH; CH3OO(CH2)3CHCICOOH; CN(CH2)3CHC1OOH; CH3COOCH2CHC1COOH; CH3OCH2CHC1OOH; C6H5CH2CHC1OOH; Cl(CH2)3CC12OOH.
