Abstract

Stepped and multielement differential phase shifters based on coupled transmission lines whose ends are connected by a connecting section are synthesized. It is found that a multielement structure with conventional C sections containing a zero-length connecting section should be used in the design of wideband phase shifters with a specified rated phase shift of φ0 ≥ 180°, whereas stepped structures with a connecting section whose length is half the midband operating wavelength should be used in the design of wideband phase shifters with φ0 > 180°.
