Synthesis of trifluoromethyl substituted sugars from 3,3,3-trifluoropyruvates

Abstract

3,3,3-Trifluoropyruvates (1) on reaction with a variety of C-nucleophiles can be transformed into α-trifluoromethyl substituted α-hydroxy carboxylic acid derivatives. ▪ Compounds 2–4 were found to be useful starting materials for syntheses of c-trifluoromethyl substituted sugars, like 3-desoxy-2-C-trifluoromethylaxabinose and 3-desoxy-2-C-trifluoromethyl-ribose (10) [U.
