Synthesis of Triazoles (II): van Leusen Imidazole Synthesis-Intramolecular [2+3] Cycloaddition

Abstract

An interesting one-pot synthesis of fused triazolo-imidazoles is reported which takes advantage of a combination of two well-established reactions in heterocyclic chemistry, the van Leusen method for construction of imidazoles using substituted TosMIC reagents and an intramolecular [2+3] cycloaddition reaction. This two-step protocol gives rise to eight N-rich fused heterocycles in moderate to very good yields.
