Abstract
The treatment of 3β-acetoxy-5α-pregnan-20α-ol (I) with halogenating agents, such as thionyl chloride and phosphorus chloride, affords the isomeric 3β-acetoxy-20α-and 20β-chloro-5α-pregnanes (III, IV) whereas 3β-acetoxy-5α-pregnan-20β-ol (II) yields the D-homo compounds.
