Abstract

Fundamentally Small MoS2 Nanostructures In article number 2201930 by Gilles Flamant, Jeffrey M. Gordon, Reshef Tenne, and co-workers, highly concentrated sunlight focused onto a mixture of MoS2 and MoO3 is used to generate previously elusive MoS2 nanostructures, most notably doublewall MoS2 nanotubes (shown) and nanocones (horns). The far from equilibrium conditions achieved in the high-temperature solar furnace (shown) create the special reactor conditions amenable to their synthesis. DFT calculations support the experimental findings.
