Abstract

The novel anions [Re 3H 3(μ-X)(CO) 10] - (X=Cl, Br, I), prepared by reaction of the unsaturated anion [Re 3H 4(CO) 10] - with the corresponding hydrogen halides HX, have been characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy and by an X-ray diffraction study of the chloro derivative. The anion [Re 3H 3-(μ-Cl)(CO) 10] - contains an isosceles triangle of metal atoms, with two longer hydrogen-bridged Re—Re edges (mean 3.206 Å) and one shorter edge of 2.995(2) Å, doubly bridged by a hydride ligand and a chlorine atom (mean Re—Cl 2.497 Å).
