Abstract

A series of substituted barium ferrites of M-type, Ba(CoTi) x Fe 12−2 x O 19, and W-type, BaZn 2− y Co y Fe 16O 27, were prepared as nanostructured powders using the stearic acid gel method. Well-crystallized nanocrystalline hexaferrite particles of 10–20 nm have been obtained at temperatures 650–750°C lower than those of other methods. The structures and micrographs of the nanocrystalline materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The phase composition of the intermediate products during the synthesis has been investigated by differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, IR spectroscopy and X-ray analysis.
