Abstract

Three spiro(dipyridinogermole)(dithienogermole)-copper complexes with iodine-bridged copper dinuclear units were prepared. That one of the complexes had a linearly linked polymeric structure was revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. In contrast to previously studied similar copper complexes, the present ones did not produce strong photoluminescence in the solid state. A nonradiative decay process, such as photo-induced electron transfer, seems to be involved. A spiro(dipyridinogermole)(dithienogermole) dimer was also prepared and examined as a ligand that forms a copper complex possessing a ladder polymeric structure.
