Abstract
A new class of spiro-pyrimidinones, pyrazolidinones and isoxazolidinones are prepared from 4- cyano-4-ethoxycarbonyl-piperidines / tetrahydropyrans / tetrahydrothiopyrans.

During the last one and half decades we have been actively involved in the synthesis of spiro heterocycles
In continuation of our sustained interest in this field, new, versatile and multifunctional reactive intermediates 3,3-disubstituted 1,5-diaryl-1,5-pentanediones have been reported. These compounds were used as synthons to get a variety of spiro-heterocycles.[7,8]
Dimethyl 3,5-diaroyl-2,6-diaryl- piperidine / tetrahydropyran / tetrahydrothiopyran-4,4-dicarboxylates were used as synthons for spiro-pyrimidinetriones, thioxopyrimidinediones, pyrazolidinediones and isoxazolidinediones.[13]
