Abstract
Some new analogues of phthalein dyes have been synthesised which may be regarded as Δ α,β -butenolides due to the presence of five membered unsaturated γ-lactone ring in their structures. Evaluation of anticandidal activity reveals that some of the compounds are very active against Candida albicans.
