Abstract

In this Study, it was planned to select suitable phase change material for energy conservation in building through microcapsule method. Rice bran distilled fatty acid (RBDFA) was chosen based on its low melting point about 29oC compared to other organic phase changing material. Microcapsules developed by means of In situ polymerization technique. The shell material of the microcapsule is melamine formaldehyde and core material is RBDFA. Thermal stability verified by using thermo gravimetric analyser (TGA) and finally thermal cyclic changes testing also carried by differential scanning calorimetric analyser (DSC). Based on the testing results micro capsulated RBDFA further tested for building air conditioning system by means of concrete model room and that room was designed with microcapsule brick. The result found that energy consumption is reduced and comfort containing of temperature obtained.
