Abstract

The synthesis of fully protected ß-methyl aspartic acids from (±)-glutamic anhydride has been achieved by means of ring contraction of the derived nickelacycle followed by insertion of an isocyanide. The intermediate five-membered ring nickelacycles were isolated and characterized spectroscopically.
