Abstract
Polyurethane-modified epoxy has been synthesized using acrylic polyol and tolonate as polyurethane component. Epoxy modification process was conducted at 50 o , 70 o and 90 o C; 10 %, 20 %, 30 %, 40 % (%w/w) polyurethane to epoxy; with solvent and without solvent as well. Characterization of polyurethane-modified epoxy has been done by determining rest of isocyanate to calculate isocyanate conversion level, Fourier Transform- Infra Red (FT-IR) analysis and 1 H-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance ( 1 H-NMR). Based on the result, the highest conversion (97.91%) was obtained when reaction process was done at 50 o C and using solvent. FT-IR analysis showed presence of new absorbance in 1722 cm -1 wave area which is absorbance of C=O group of urethane bond (-NH-(C=O)-O-) as result of isocyanate (N=C=O) reaction with hydroxyl group (-OH) of epoxy and polyol. Besides, based on FT-IR spectrum, it has been identified presence of absorbance intensity in 2270 cm -1 which is isocyanate group. While, 1 H-NMR analysis showed that there is new signal in δ=4,8827 ppm regional shift of -C-H sp 3 bond which is bound to –O- atom of urethane bond (-CH-O-(C=O)NH-). Keywords: Epoxy , Polyurethane, Polyurethane modified epoxy.
