Abstract

The incorporation of mesogenic (liquid-crystalline) chain-end functionalities in polyacetylene (PA) can be achieved using the ‘Durham route’ and ‘Schrock-type’ well defined metal alkylidene initiators. These chain-end groups were designed to nucleate the self-organization of the polyenes in thin films prepared by spin coating of the precursor polymer onto MISFET device structures, since improvements of carrier mobility and conductivity are expected in well ordered materials.
