Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the production of polyacetylenes with cinnamate and its derivatives. The polymerization of (S)-N-(1-oxo-1-(prop-2-ynylamino)propan-2-yl) cinnamamide (1) and (S,E)-N-(1-oxo-1-(prop-2- ynylamino)propan-2-yl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)acrylamide (2), using the catalyst (nbd)Rh+ [ɳ6-C6H5B - (C6H5)3], generated polyacetylenes [poly(1)–poly(2)], with a molecular weight range of 5,800- 8,160 g/mol in good yield. The result showed these polymers to be insoluble, except in common organic solvent, and showed large specific rotation. Poly (1) and Poly (2) were exhibit stable helical structures, with potential application as a chiral catalyst in asymmetric synthesis.
