Abstract
Abstract A new synthetic procedure for the preparation of perfluorinated ketones from nonfluorinated sec-alcohols was developed. A key step in the synthetic route was a liquid-phase direct fluorination reaction with elemental fluorine. Direct fluorination of a partially fluorinated ester, which was prepared from a nonfluorinated sec-alcohols and a perfluorinated acyl fluoride, followed by thermal elimination, gave a perfluorinated ketone and the starting perfluorinated acyl fluoride, which could be recycled. Application to the synthesis of a precursor polyfluoroketone for fluoropolymer resists for 157 nm microlithography was also established.
