Abstract

Filtration combustion synthesis of porous sialon ceramics from Al-SiO2-Si2Al4O4N4 mixtures in conditions of forced oscillation supply of nitrogen gas was explored. Forced infiltration of gas reactant was found to enhance the extent of nitriding and to decrease maximal combustion temperature due to kinetic restrictions on combustion reaction. The latter circumstance afforded for suppressing the melting and coalescence in combustion product and thus to retain its porosity.
