Abstract

In this review, synthesis and protein adsorption of octacalcium phosphate (OCP) prepared with fluoride ions (F−) were discussed. Two types of fluoride-containing calcium phosphates (F-CaPs) which partly preserve OCP crystal structures were produced. The F-CaPs exhibited different protein adsorption capacities regardless of F content in the solids. F-CaP prepared by hydrolysis (HF-CaP) adsorbed more amount of cytochrome c than F-CaP prepared by co-precipitation (CF-CaP) and original OCP. HF-CaP may have a capacity which can adsorb more osteogenic growth factors than original OCP does.
