Abstract

The independent 2:1 reactions of MMe3 (M = Al, Ga) with 1,2-(H2P)2C6H4 resulted in the formation of the novel eight-membered tetrametallic ring compounds with the general formula {(Me2M)4[(μ-PH)2(C6H4)]2} (M = Al (1), Ga (2)) in a nearly quantitative yield. Combining AlMe3 and 1,2-(H2P)2C6H4 in a 1:1 ratio also afforded 1. The reaction of AlMe3 with 1,2-(H2N)2C6H4 (2:1) yielded the novel asymmetric compound [(Me2Al)2AlMe(C6H4(NH)2)2]·AlMe3 (3). Compound 3 is composed of four aluminum centers which are chemically inequivalent. Reaction of GaMe3 with 1,2-(H2N)2C6H4 in a 3:2 ratio gave {(Me2Ga)3[(μ-NH)2(C6H4)(μ-NH)(C6H4NH2)]} (4). The synthesis and characterization of 1−4, including their solid-state structures, are presented.
