Abstract

Herein we describe the synthesis of novel substituted 6aλ4-thia-1,6-diazapentalenes by a base-induced dimerisation of two isothiazolium salts. It was possible to introduce benzo crown ether substituents for the first time according to the well established reaction procedure for the synthesis of the thiadiazapentalenes. The complex formation behaviour of the 6aλ4-thia-1,6-diazapentalenes towards Ag(I), Hg(II) and Na(I) in solution was studied in terms of the influence of several substituents. The combination of 6aλ4-thia-1,6-diazapen-talenes with benzo crown ether substituents results in a simultaneous binding of one hard and one soft metal ion by one molecule.
