Abstract
This paper presents a new method for the synthesis of nonuniformly spaced arrays. By means of the ChebyÌ…shev-Gauss quadrature and the Hankel transform, the space factor of an array and a prescribed radiation pattern can be reduced into the same form in terms of the lambda functions. By equating the coefficients of the lambda functions, the element excitation can be determined directly. The synthetised array simulates the prescribed pattern with a high degree of precision. This is demonstrated by an example in which an array is synthetised to produce the Taylor pattern.
