Abstract

Polyguanamine macromonomers were synthesized by self-polyaddition reaction of 2-amino-4-(m-amino-N-alkylanilino)-6-isopropenyl-1,3,5-triazines. Alkyl groups were ethyl and octadecyl. Molecular weight of the macromonomers was determined to be 3000–4000 (number average molecular weight) by their 1H NMR spectra and gel permeation chromatography. Copolymerizations of the macromonomers with styrene and methyl methacrylate were carried out to give the graft copolymer. Glass transition temperature (Tg) and decomposition temperature were determined by thermal analysis. Only a single Tg was observed for the resulting graft copolymers. The thermal properties of the graft copolymers were compared with those of random copolymers.
