Abstract

A new kind of periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) material containing macrocyclic host was designed and synthesized in this work. The macrocyclic host molecule cis-dicyclohexano-18-crown-6, well-known as an excellent ionophore for strontium, was carefully modified and incorporated into the framework of the silica matrix. Full characterizations regarding the structure, surface properties, and micro morphology of the material were performed. The PMO material had a typical hexagonal pore arrangement (p6mm symmetry) and a high BET surface area (579.2m2/g). Due to the specific binding ability of the host units, the PMO material showed selective adsorption to strontium in the presence of various interfering metal ions. The material might potentially find applications in the field of metal separation in radioactive waste.
